What to Consider When Choosing a Double-Legged Lanyard?
Share

One of the basic rules of working safely at heights is to choose the right personal protective equipment used. At the top of these equipment are double-legged lanyards, which are an important part of the fall arrest system. Double-legged lanyards provide the user with mobility while simultaneously offering a high level of safety. However, choosing the right product is vital.

Lanyard Material Quality and Durability

One of the first factors to consider when choosing a double-legged lanyard is the material quality. Both the internal and external structure of the product should be resistant to environmental conditions. It should offer a structure resistant to external factors such as abrasion, wear, UV rays, moisture, and rain. Materials such as polyamide, polyester or high-strength polyethylene (HMPE) are frequently used in lanyard types that offer high durability. At the same time, the product should be designed not to exceed the carrying load limits in terms of user safety.

Carrying Capacity and EN Standards

The safety of personal protective equipment used while working at heights is a critical element that directly affects user health. In this context, the carrying capacity of double-legged lanyards and their compliance with international standards are of great importance. Various EN standards have been developed to guarantee the safety of products. These standards and required features can be listed as follows:

EN 354: The basic standard for lanyards.

EN 355: Lanyards containing shock absorbers must comply with this standard.

EN 362: Specifies the carabiner standards of the hooks used.

Must have a minimum carrying capacity of 100 kg.

Must have a force resistance of 6 kN (kilonewton).

Must have successfully passed the fall impact tests.

All these documents must be presented with the product.

The safe use of double-legged lanyard models depends on their physical durability and compliance with international safety standards. Preferring products tested and approved according to EN standards plays a critical role in preventing possible accidents. Therefore, it must be checked that the products to be purchased are presented with the necessary documents and have passed all tests.
